Education For the Future

HIV/AIDS education for teenagers

Ashinaga Uganda and Youth Empowerment Development and AIDS awareness (YEDA) jointly organised the first care program this year on Saturday 2nd February 2013 at Ashinaga rainbow house.81 teenagers both girls and boys all in secondary school participated.

The purpose was to raise awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, with special focus on HIV/AIDS Control and Prevention among teenagers being the most vulnerable.

The day involved group discussions and sharing of information on basic HIV/AIDS facts, caring of siblings and relatives who are HIV positive, seeking of Voluntary counseling and Testing (VCT) and early treatment. In addition, we also had music, dance and drama by peer educators.

One of the YEDA positive youth shared her own experiences that she got to know she was born positive when she was thirteen years old. But because she was not stigmatized and discriminated she has managed to take her medication well to live positively. She encouraged the fellow teenagers to continue with their education and also work hard for a better future.

Lutaya Vialey, Ashinaga Participant on behalf of others thanked the organizers of the program for they benefited a lot and suggested to have more programs like these.
