Visit of their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino

Ashinaga Uganda honorably received their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino on June 13th, 2012. Their visit to Uganda was to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Uganda. During the one-hour stay at Ashinaga Uganda, the couple enjoyed visiting the Terakoya classes and interacting with the children.
The Terakoya pupils performed a Japanese song, called “Doraemon” and Ugandan traditional dance, which have been practiced a lot for this day. In addition, “one and only handmade story book” was presented to Princess Kiko. It is a true story based on one of the Terakoya children who has gone through difficult life. Princess Kiko kindly put the heroine by her side and read the book together one page by one page. As the couple was leaving, they walked up and kindly talked to pupils, Japanese student volunteers, Ugandan candidates for the overseas education program and staff members. A pupil who gave a speech on behalf of Terakoya said, “Though I felt a little nervous, it was my pleasure to see Prince Akishino. I practiced my speech everyday. I would love to see them again.”
Please fine more details at Ashinaga Japan.
